Short answer
First confirm the track plays in the original Mac app. Then pause other players, restart the intended track and reopen Media Island. Note whether information is missing, stale or belongs to another player; each symptom points to a different part of the workflow.
Separate sound from now-playing information
An empty artwork panel and silent speakers are different problems. A player may be producing sound while its track metadata is unavailable to the remote. Conversely, the panel may show the correct title while the selected audio output is silent. Begin by writing down which part actually fails instead of changing several settings together.
| Symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| No audio in the original player | Player, track availability and system output |
| Audio works; island is empty | Active player and media information |
| Wrong track in island | Other media apps or tabs |
| Correct track; wrong speaker | Audio output selection |
Run a small reproducible test
- Pause other media apps and browser videos.
- Play one ordinary track in Spotify or Music on this Mac.
- Open NotchPop's Media Island and compare title, artist and progress.
- Pause and resume in the original player, then try the island's control.
- Note whether the display updates and whether the command reaches the intended player.
Keep the test local before introducing casting, remote devices or multiple players. A successful desktop-player test does not establish identical support for every website. If only one browser tab fails, record the browser and site along with the working app comparison. The music controls overview explains the intended workflow.
Report useful evidence without private content
Record your NotchPop version, macOS version and player version. Say whether the panel is blank from launch or stops updating after sleep, a device switch or a second player opening. A clear sequence is more actionable than a screenshot of a large library or an account page.
Use an ordinary public track when reproducing the issue. You do not need to share a password, account token or private playlist. If sound is the only problem, check switching audio outputs instead. Avoid repeatedly granting unrelated permissions; change only a setting that matches a documented requirement or the failing test.
