Check your Mac RAM. Read beyond a percent.

Use NotchPop for a memory glance and Activity Monitor for memory pressure, cached files and swap. Avoid treating used RAM alone as a diagnosis.

Short answer

NotchPop System shows a memory-use summary. For interpretation, open Activity Monitor → Memory and inspect memory pressure, swap and the apps involved. A large used-memory figure alone does not establish a leak or mean cached memory must be cleared.

Use the island for a glance

The memory tile in NotchPop shows an overview of the Mac's current usage, including used and total capacity when available. It is useful when a task suddenly feels constrained, but it is only the start of an investigation. Keep the task and the visible symptom in mind before responding to a percentage.

A browser with many documents, an editor and a large media project can legitimately use substantial RAM. The important question is whether your actual work remains responsive and how the system is handling demand. Do not assume the highest possible free-memory figure is the goal.

Inspect Apple's detailed memory view

  1. Open Activity Monitor and choose Memory.
  2. Review Memory Pressure and Swap Used, alongside the listed apps.
  3. Consider what changed: a new project, many tabs or a long-running application.
  4. Save work and close unneeded documents or apps normally, then observe whether the symptom improves.

Apple distinguishes physical memory, app and wired memory, compressed memory, cached files and swap. Cached files can help performance, so their presence is not itself waste. Use those details to interpret pressure rather than treating the compact used-memory figure as a recommendation to run a cleaner.

Make comparisons that answer a question

If an app appears to grow over time, record the same workflow at several points and note what documents were open. A repeatable pattern is more useful than one screenshot taken during a large import. A restart may change a reading without explaining its cause, so keep evidence of the sequence when reporting a problem.

Check CPU load if the slowdown is computational, and network activity if a remote operation is waiting. NotchPop's System panel does not free RAM or diagnose a hardware upgrade for you. Use it to notice a change, then investigate with the relevant detailed tool.
